A comparative study of Normal Mars with that to Retro Mars

A comparative study of Normal Mars with that to Retro Mars

We need to first understand where Mars is posited, i.e. in which rasi.  Whether it is placed in its friends rashi, enemies or in a neutral rashi. As we know, Mars is friends with Sun, Moon and Jupiter and hence its placement in the rasis owned by these three planets will be beneficial compared to its placement in other rasis. Also the lordship of Mars (ex. Being the 4th lord or the 5th lord from lagna) is an important factor in horoscope analysis.

In this article we will discuss in general the behavior of a person with a Retro Mars as to the person with a Normal Mars.

1.       A normal Martian is an aggressive person (outwardly), i.e, he is basically an extrovert. Retro Mars makes him an introvert person. Retro Mars will not show his aggression outwardly but will keep it inside him and will use it for his self defense and development. He will be more goal oriented and use his strength, courage and aggression in a proper planned manner. Being aggressive he will do many things in life, i.e, he will focus on achievements. For ex. Being a runner i.e, marathon runner, cyclist, a good determined sports person, boxer, athlete, fitness oriented, body building, etc.

A normal Martians aggression generally gets converted into anger and hence his development is less. In this case he would be commanding, ruling, showing off his strength, etc.
2.       A Retro Mars in lagna will be soft towards his family members and relationships. His mind-set will be different and would be ready to help people whenever it is required. A Retro Mars will have more friends compared to a normal Mars.

3.       A normal Mars will compete and compare with others but a Retro Mars will compete with himself.  Retro Mars is like a controlled fire. Normal Mars will act first and think later but a Retro Mars will think first and act later. This is one of the major differences between Direct Mars and Retro Mars.

4.        In specific areas and sports wherein you need to think fast and act, Retro Mars will be in more advantageous position. Ex. F1 driving – Retro Mars will win over normal Mars.

5.       In some places normal Mars is more important than a Retro Mars. When a Retro Mars has to choose something then it becomes difficult for him. Ex. If he likes a girl, he would take lot of time to act since he will waster time in thinking.

6.       Retro Mars is a good problem solver but at times fails to be a good leader. Since in every situation one cannot keep thinking and react later.

7.       Retro Mars doesn’t have a strong vigour. A normal Mars is a good and strong leader. Ex. In some cases like if in case while landing a flight wheels don’t come out of the hatch, a normal Mars can act fast because of his immense courage and vigour and risk taking ability, but a Retro Mars will not be able to do so.
We can say that a direct Mars can go ahead and plunge into danger and sacrifice his life for the good of others.

8.       Retro Mars is good for his family and himself. He becomes aggressive inwardly i.e. an extrovert person becomes introvert. But a direct Mars if has strong positive influences can do wonders for the society.

9.       Retrograde Mars is regarded as the strongest position of Mars. Mars becomes Retro only when Mars is closer to earth. In this case, Chestha bala of Mars is very high and it directly influences the native.

When Mars is farthest from earth that means Mars is behind sun i.e. all the three are in line Mars-Sun-Earth and in this case Mars loses its strength.
10.   A Retro Mars in a lagna is a very good combination provided it is not influenced by any malefic planet. This combination helps in bringing out a change in the society.
Retro Mars is a better fighter because it gives the native logical interpretation, patience, perseverance and a plan to execute it. Regular Mars lacks planning but has the aggression.

With regard to Medical Terms

Regular Mars will give good strength, good hearing capacity, blood count, etc. Retro Mars will decrease all these aspects.

Wherever Mars is posited it affects that particular organ of the body. If a normal Mars is placed in 8th, it gives Madhyaayu.  In case of Retro Mars, the case becomes more severe, like Retro Mars in 8th makes a person short lived. Can be anemic, it can also go to an extent of spoiling a particular organ on which it influences. This happens when there is a strong malefic influence of Ketu, Rahu, Saturn, etc.

Mars and its Importance in Logical Interpretation

Mars and its Importance in Logical Interpretation.

The signification of Mars is of utmost importance in this present world.  At one point or the other everyone will have to go through situations where they have to use their discretionary powers. It is not always a simple “Yes” or “No” to every situation.  The complexity of the situation will challenge the analytical skills of a person.

We when young required support of our Elders, Friends and Mentors to guide us through our tough situations, but once we started acquiring our individuality our ego grew along with us. We stopped discussing our problems with others and started taking our own decisions.  This may not be only because of our ego, but also because we tend to lose trust upon others advice.

The significations like Courage, Fighting spirit, Aim Orientation, to take fast and logical decisions, Speakingup for justice, etc., make analysis of Mars in the horoscope important.

Myths like Manglik (Mangal Dosh) have been associated to Mars when it is placed in the 2nd/12th/4th/7th/8th houses from Lagna (Ascendant) or Moon.   This particular dosha gained prominence in the recent years. When we go through the classics like Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra – by Parashara, Brihat Jataka – by Varahamihira, Phaladeepika – by Mantreshwara, Uttarakalamrita – by Kalidasa and Saravali – by Kalyana Varma, there is no reference to this dosha caused by Mars.  But, due to the hype created by our astrological society in the recent years, let us ponder into this fact.

When Mars is in the 2nd (Vaksthana, Annasthana, Kutumbasthana, Dhanasthana) it effectively influences the house and its significations.  Being the Vaksthana (house of speech) Mars influences the same and makes the person aggressive in speech or makes him put forth his/her opinion frankly. This is now-a-days a major requirement for a Lawyer who is required to assert his point across.

For a native to be a good communicator, factors like language, vocabulary, fluency and wittiness is required.  The right word at the right time is also an important factor.  For these above faculties the placement of Moon and Mercury is to be analyzed.  Mars comes into play only after this.  Mars gives the native the strength to analyze a situation with comparative factors.  In an argument the zeal to argue comes second whereas the information and facts supporting an argument comes first.

Hence if Mars is placed in a good bhava (house) like the 3rd, 6th or the 11th the native will get the strength to put across a point convincingly.  Particularly the 3rd house which is the house of communication and activity if has Mars in it or has the aspect of Mars on it will gain strength.

A weak Mars will not give the native the required confidence to speak in public.  An over confident Mars (this is when Mars is conjunct Jupiter and has influence of Rahu) if placed in a chart, will make the native put his nose into unwanted matters and spoil the situation from bad to worse.

Considering its placement in the 4th (the house of Sukh – enjoyment, vehicles, house, mother, etc.,) and is strongly placed, Mars will give good benefits from vehicles and also will make the native lucky with regard to acquiring own house / landed property.

In the same position if it is malefically influenced then it will make him a rash driver. In case Mars is weak then the native will not have confidence in vehicles and will face difficulty in acquiring own house.

In medical cases when a person is ill and let’s say he is in ICU and the relatives are concerned about his recovery. The query posed would be as to when the native would recover and come back to normal health.  In this scenario the position of transiting Mars plays an important role.  Favourable positions (from both lagna and moon) will help the native recover fast and bad position will delay recovery.

Mars gets activated in a chart when the native will be going through its Maha Dasha (Major period), Antar Dasha (Sub period) and Pratyantar Dasha (Sub sub period).  Also the rasi in which Mars transits from Moon is considered important.

FAQ's of Marriage

FAQ’s of Marriage
1.       When will I get married?

Astrological parameters to be checked are: 7th Lord and 7th House, Maha dasha planet (Majorperiod) and Antar dasha Planet (Sub period),  Transit of Jupiter and Saturn, 5th lord and 9th lord, Navamsha Kundali (D-9 Divisional Chart).

If the 7th lord is strongly placed with a favourable planetary dasha and also a strong influence on the 7th house (bhava) by the transiting planets Jupiter/Saturn, then there is a very good chance that the native will get married in that period or will get engaged.

If there is support of the 5th lord and the 9th lord, then the native will fall in love with his spouse before marriage (in case of arranged marriage) or will go through a successful love marriage which is blessed by both the parents.

The ascendant should have fallen in a benefic amsa in D-9.  Venus should be well placed (karaka for marriage).    Karaka means “one who signifies.”

2.       Will I be happy after marriage?

Everyone wants a happy marriage. This is a question which is asked the most by parents when they are seeking a spouse for their son or daughter. They want to know whether their son/daughter will be happy after his/her marriage.

The parameters for a happy married life is not easy to be listed.

But, generally, for a good and stable marriage, Jupiter and Venus play an important role in ones chart.  Their placement will suggest as to whether there is spark in the married life or not.

The 7th house should be void of malefic and it should not be flanked by malefic planets (planets should not be posited on either side i.e. both in the 6th and 8th)

The lagnadhipati (ascendant lord) should be strong and the trik stanas (6-8-12 houses) should be void of planets or only malefic planets should be posited there.

Kendra lords and Kendras (Quadrants) should be well posited.

After all these parameters are satisfied, there are more parameters which have to be checked and since it is a detailed study all the parameters cannot be listed here.

3.        I am in love and will I marry him/her?

Marrying the person whom you love would be the most beautiful thing that has happened in your life. Not all love affairs end up in marriage.

Parameters for a love marriage: 5th house/lord for romance, 7th house/lord for an intimate affair and the 9th house/lord for elders blessing/approval.

Most of the time we see that the couple who love each other are in the fear of disagreement from their parents.  It’s very rare that both the boy’s and the girl’s parents agree to the marriage.

The agreement of parents is seen form the 9th house and the 9th lords position in the chart.  If the 9th lord is strong and is aspecting the 7th house or the 7th lord then there will be elders blessing.

If the 5th is well placed with aspect of Venus then there will be a romantic love affair.  If there is an affliction of Mars on the 5th house, then there will be an affair which may not be that romantic but will be more intimate.

4.       My marriage is going through a rough patch, will it patch up or how many years should I suffer?

If there are malefic influences on the 7th and their (that planets) dasha is in progress, then the marriage will be going through ups and downs.

If the transiting Jupiter becomes retro over the 7th house or the 7th lord then there will be a temporary misunderstanding between the couple.

If one can see a good period in the future which will be a benefic planet and that planet is well placed in the horoscope, then the native will come out of the suffering and the marriage will patch up.

But, in the same scenario, if there is a malefic dasa of a slow planet like Saturn, Rahu or Ketu  then there is a chance that the marriage will break up.

The following dasha periods are not good for a stable marriage.
a)      Jupiter / Saturn
b)      Jupiter/ Venus
c)       Saturn/Rahu
d)      Rahu/Mercury
e)      Sun/Ketu or Sun/Rahu

It is always important to conduct a marriage when both the boy and the girl are not going through the dasha systems which are listed above. Also the upcoming dasha period should not be the above ones. It is difficult to adhere to these rules due to many factors, of which aging is the most important factor.

If there is a beneficial dasha following the time of query, one should give the native a hope of reconcile.

If the lagnadhipati is weakly disposed and the 7th lord is strong with malefic influences, then the native may have to go through this till the dasha/antardasha becomes favourable.

The transits of Saturn and Jupiter play an important role in this case. A benefic Jupiter will give good financial gains and a benefic Saturn will give a sane mind.  Both of these factors help a marriage to be stable.

5.       I have gone through a divorce. Can I remarry and when is that?

This is also one of the common queries now-a-days.
The parameters for second marriage are: The 9th house and lord, Venus, Mars and the transits of Jupiter and Saturn.

The 9th house represents the second marriage (3rd from the 7th house – bhavat bhava principle).  A strong 9th lord will give a stable and happy second marriage.  Also the placement of benefics like Venus/Jupiter in the 9th will help.

The Maha dasha lord and the Antar dasha lord will help in deciding the timing of marriage and the quality of married life in their period.

The placement of Mars is important in this case.  Mars gives the hope in life and hence in cases of depression after the divorce of the first marriage a benefic Mars aspect will be helpful for revival.  The native will make up his/her mind to get into another relationship after garnering courage.

Mangal Dosha or Kuja Dosha

Mangal Dosha or Kuja Dosha

Traditional texts have mention that Kuja Dosha is formed if When Kuja (Mars) is placed in the 1st ,2nd ,4th ,7th ,8th and 12th houses from Lagna or Chandra.  It is mentioned in some texts and commentaries given by earlier astrologers that when Kuja is placed in the 5th from the Lagna or the Chandra also then Kuja Dosha is formed.

Now many have understood and come in terms with the concept of Kuja Dosha.  The dosha in its entirety cannot be taken as a malefic placement, but, the intricacies have to studied and understood.

Kuja gives confidence and logical thinking.  This if found in a modern chart of a female, is now-a-days considered good. This is because most of the grooms wish to have a career oriented spouse as their life partner.  This has changed the way we should analyse this dosha.

After analysis of the different positions Kuja can be posited and can cause dosha, very less placements are to be taken seriously in these times of satellite family systems.  The concept of joint family system has dried up and nuclear families have multiplied.  In these nuclear families, the home maker the woman has to be strong willed and minded to support her husband both finically and emotionally.  There has to be a suitable position of Kuja, which earlier was a dosha now becomes a bala (strength) and can be called Kuja Bala.

The dosha of Kuja makes the person sharp tounged and aggressive.  There are instances when the native does not fear to cross ethical boundaries due to the malefic strength of Kuja which makes him take illogical decisions.

Hence a profound study has to be done before arriving at conclusions.
