FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My father's life in the horoscope is 67 years. He is 66 now and completely fit and fine. So, should I believe in horoscope? Are horoscopes true?

Who gave you that number?

As I know no astrologer gives prediction on longevity as it is not an easy task.

What is the use in knowing one’s longevity? The quality of life is more important than the longevity of a native.

You do not have to worry about the number and discard the same and live free of it.

How can one get a government job through an astrological combination?

Usually for a person to get into a government job there should be a good sustainable stable dasha bhukti in the chart.

Secondly the person should have a standard income yoga in the chart. These things will not be proclaimed in the chart as a big Raj yoga. There are many charts with normal yogas like the kendrasthanadhipati (4th, 7th or the 10th lord) sitting in the 2nd house or the 5th lord posited in the 2nd house or the 9th lord sitting in the 2nd house. The above mentioned combinations are good dhana yogas which will give stable income to the native.

With these yogas or combinations, if the native has a strong Sun or Jupiter posited in the 6th or 4th or in the 10th or even in the 7th house, the native will have a good chance to get into a government job.

In many cases, when the 10th lord is conjunct with Sun and has a benefic aspect of Jupiter, chances are very high to get into government sector.

If the 10th lord is along with the slow moving planet or along with Sun, there is a very good chance for a person to get into a government service.

I always have a confusion regarding astrology predictions, karma and manifestation. It is said we manifest our lives and also karma has impact on our lives so where does astrology stand here. What among the three has more significance in one's life?

This question pertains to the proportion of Freewill, Fate and Destiny of a person. Here Freewill is Purushartha

Fate is the prabadha and

Destiny is the Moksha where the person will reach in his life.

Here the fate is not always fixed i.e. the prarabdha karma has 2 parts dhridha karma and the other one is adhridha karma.

Dhridha karma means fixed path of life or fixed limitations of that particular person.

Adhridha karma means the karmas or actions which are flexible and which depend upon the way a person thinks and acts in this life. Here freewill plays a very important role in shaping the adhridha karma.

Most part of our thought processes are nothing but our yearnings to find the correct path for our life. These yearnings come from inside which we call as gut feelings or passion or dreams. All these put together is known as inspiration which happens internally i.e. within one’s sub conscious mind. To control this sub conscious mind and channelize it properly earlier days (1000s of years old) people use to practice meditation, yoga, chanting mantras/vedas, etc.

Living a satvik life, practicing right discipline, walking on the right ethical path of life would actually give us good thoughts and promote our life through a better path because adhridha karma plays a very important role in deciding how happy we are in what we are doing in our life.

What are the mutual effects of Mars in the first house with Venus and the Moon in the 7th house for a Libra ascendant?

Here Venus & Mars both have exchanged houses i.e. parivatana yoga has happened,

Venus being the lord of ascendant Libra and Mars being the lord of 7th house i.e. Aries have exchanged signs and are placed in the opposite signs. This particular parivartana yoga is considered one of the best yogas for acquiring wealth, getting into good business and other material accomplishments.

Moon here is the 10th lord along with Venus in the 7th house gives rise to a very strong Raj Yoga with regard to professional success.

A Comparative Study of Direct and Retro Jupiter

A Comparative Study of Direct and Retro Jupiter

Let us first discuss about basic or the general characteristics of Jupiter. Jupiter is a Dhana Karaka, Putra Karaka, Jnana Karaka and Bhagya Karaka.  It makes a native think big. It is a benevolent and generous planet.  Jupiter is a planet which makes the native sensitive, understand others feelings, friendly with others, be humble and soft in nature and able to understand other people’s perception.

When Jupiter is beneficially posited in the 6th house, it confers a strong yoga of not having any enemies.  All the planetary combinations now-a-days has to be analyzed keeping in mind Desha (Country), Kaala (Time period) and Varthamana (Present scenario).

Jupiter in 6th house if benefic makes the native polite, humble and very detail oriented.

Another basic character of Jupiter is being a Dhana karaka. In most cases when there is a strong and benefic Jupiter placed the native will be bestowed with good wealth and fortune.  This wealth would be because of the native's hard work and good family background and not because of his greediness to make wealth, since in the eyes of public it would seem as though he is amassing wealth.

Jupiter being placed in Lagna, 2nd, 10th and 11th would confer Dhana Yoga.  The native makes money through different means.  For, ex. If placed in the 2nd, Jupiter will give immovable property (landed property, rented property, buildings, etc.).

If it is placed in the lagna, Jupiter will make the person responsible and will make sure that he earns good fortune for his family. If Jupiter is placed in the 11th house, which is also a strong Dhana yoga, will give easy money, like lottery, getting rent from parental property, etc. The native may acquire property from either maternal or paternal sides. Winning money through gambling, betting, etc. can be seen from this position (11th house), but in this case a strong Rahu should be posited along with Jupiter.

Jupiter in its natural behavior would give good children (being the lord of progeny), wisdom, wealth and make the native responsible of his actions.

Now let us see how Jupiter gets transformed when it becomes Retrograde.

A Retro Jupiter will make the person extremely sharp, vigilant, always conscious and aware of his surroundings. A Retro Jupiter will usually act based as per his intelligence rather than his wisdom. This is where the difference between a regular Jupiter and a Retro Jupiter comes into picture. When one acts using only his intelligence which is actually controlled by Budha (Mercury) it is because of the weak Retro Jupiter which will act spontaneously without giving a thought to the Wisdom (acquired by a strong Jupiter).

Jupiter is lord of Wisdom and accumulated experiences and expressions which a person will be continuously doing from the day of his birth.  Each planet will be influencing the accumulated knowledge throughout one’s life.   These experiences and perceptions buildup into wisdom which becomes a solid platform in forming one’s character after middle age. This will determine whether a person has good or bad discretionary powers.  Hence Jupiter is also referred to as a Judge who after considering all fact and situations will pronounce a wise judgment.

A Retro Jupiter does not make the native go out in public. It makes a person introvert but internally the same person would want recognition in society.  He would want status, position, respect and name.  If there is a strong Retro Jupiter which is positively posited, then the person will be continuously thinking about the betterment of society by making a positive change. In case of a weak Retro Jupiter the person will be after pseudo status and false prestige which would satisfy his ego.
In a regular Jupiter, these wants are absent. A native with a normal strong Jupiter doesn’t have to command respect, but will be given respect by the society due to his good virtues.

In case of acquiring property, a Retro Jupiter will always be uncertain, skeptical and insecure. He would desire to have a lot of property i.e. he would be into amassing wealth. If Jupiter is malefically disposed then the native would also become greedy and miserly in behavior. In this case, Lagna and Lagna lords position is very important. If the lagna is weak and has low bhavabala (house strength) and lagna lord is weak in shadbala then the native with a Retro Jupiter would become jealous, greedy and money and status would be always important to him throughout life.

A Retro Jupiter will always try to push the person out of traditional and customary practices. Ex. There are traditional festivals in each community wherein a person is supposed to behave in a certain way, wear particular set of clothes. A Retro Jupiter will first of all question the occasion itself, it will start asking questions and would finally oppose the festival itself.  Until a Retro Jupiter gets logical answers he would not perform any ritual.  He would behave rebel to social practices. If this Retro Jupiter is strong and well placed then the native will be revolutionary and will fight to bring changes in the social practices. This revolutionary thinking of a Retro Jupiter person would have to be supported by a strong benefic either with Jupiter or aspecting it and a strong lagna lord favourably posited.

But, if Retro Jupiter is associated with malefic like Saturn, Rahu, weak/debilitated Mercury or Mars, then the above said revolutionary thinker will become a rebellion. A rebel is always a negative person to the society rather than a revolutionist who always thinks about the betterment of the society.
Best example for a revolutionist would be Rajaram Mohan Roy, who fought for widow remarriage in India. It was he who brought a great change in the belief system in Hindus and did protect the position and status of women in India.

A Retro Jupiter will always think out of the box.  They will not stick to stigmatic and orthodox rituals which are actually a taboo to the society.  They would try to understand the other religions and customs and try to adopt good things from there and try to implement it in their society for the betterment of the people.

There are mixed views, both positives and negatives regarding Regular Jupiter and a Retro Jupiter. But it all depends upon where it is posited and how strong it is posited in the natal chart to determine as to whether the native will be a boon or a bane to the society.

Sasa Yoga of Saturn

Sasa Yoga of Saturn

Career development is an integral part of everyone’s life. There are many basic questions related directly or indirectly with the aspect of career development like,

·       When will I get my first job?
·       When will I get a well paying job?
·       When will I get my promotion?

·       Whether I would be selected in the campus interview? Etc…….
Saturn’s placement and the Sasa yoga play an important role in answering the above questions.

Sasa Yoga is conferred when Saturn is exalted or is in its own house (i.e., Capricorn and Aquarius) and is in Kendra (i.e., 1,4,7 or 10th) from the Lagna/Ascendant. This yoga will give its desired results only when Saturn Maha dasha or Antar dasha or Pratyantar dasha is in operation.
Sasa Yoga will have different strength and would give different levels of results based on its position, aspect and conjunction. Here we will discuss the various rashis and the Sasa yoga formed in their case.

Why Sasa Yoga is so important for Career Development?

This is because Saturn is the only planet which has the 10th aspect i.e, aspect on the karmasthana and he is also the karaka for the 10th house. No other planet has the 10th aspect. Also in its dasha period if we take dashalord as the lagna/Ascendant then Saturn will aspect the 10th house from there. During this period, Saturn will make all the corrections required for the native. It will actually reward or punish him depending upon its position in the natal chart. Sasa yoga plays an important part in the native’s career, well being, status, position in the society, source of income, etc.

For Aries (Mesha) Lagna – Saturn is the 10th and 11th Lord. Sasa Yoga will form when it is placed in Capricorn i.e., 10th from aries. In this case, Saturn is the karmadhipati and upachaya sthanadhipati, hence this sasa yoga would be beneficial to the native and would help him to develop and progress in his career during saturn’s period. Also Sasa yoga is formed when Saturn is placed in the 7th (Exalted in Libra) from Aries.  In this case Saturn will give mixed results as it is placed in the 7th which possess a direct opposition to Lagna.

For Taurus Lagna – Saturn being the 9th and 10th lord when is placed in the 10th house i.e. in Aquarius confers Both Sasa Yoga and Maha Raja Yoga. This position of Saturn would be very beneficial to the native and is ranked number 2 position. This will take the native to new heights and achieve higher goals in his life.

For Cancer Lagna – Saturn is the 7th and the 8th Lord. Though Saturn is not a pure benefic planet for this lagna but if it is posited in the 4th i.e. in Libra, its exaltation point, it will bestow good results on the native. In this case 7th Saturn i.e. in Capricorn though confers Sasa Yoga would be less beneficial as compared to Sasa yoga formed with Saturn in 4th house.

For Leo Lagna – Saturn is the 6th and the 7th Lord. It is not a benefic planet for this lagna hence Sasa yoga formed in this scenario will not be as powerful as compared to other Lagna. Sasa yoga will form when Saturn will be posited in 7th house i.e. in Aquarius. In this particular case, a Retro Saturn posited in 7th will be more beneficial than a direct Saturn. A direct Saturn will boost and give more Ego to the native. Being a Leo lagna, the native would already be thinking very high of himself. So a direct Saturn in 7th house will add on to this and pump up the Ego of the native resulting in negative results. This combination may spoil many good things in native’s life.

For all the four corners i.e. the dual rashis (Gemini, Virgo, Saggitarius and Pisces) Sasa Yoga is not applicable.

For Libra Lagna – Saturn is the 4th and the 5th Lord for this lagna. The best Sasa Yoga is formed when Saturn is in lagna itself. It makes the native very strong in character, personality and a determined person. The placement of Saturn in libra confers a very strong Dhana Yoga. The native will have immense wealth and he would not have to face any monetary problems in most of his life time. Even the placement of Saturn in Makara gives Sasa yoga but the former position of Saturn is much more beneficial as compared to this latter position.

For Scorpio Lagna – Saturn is the 3rd and the 4th Lord. Saturn’s placement in the Aquarius confers Sasa Yoga. Being the lord of 3rd house i.e. Upachaya Sthana , it would give good results but being the 4th lord the results would be of mixed nature.

For Capricorn Lagna -  Saturn is the 1st and the 2nd lord. Sasa yoga is conferred when Saturn is placed either in the Lagna itself or in the 10th House i.e. in libra. Out of these two placements, Saturn posited in the Libra is the best Sasa Yoga formed. We can also rank this position of Saturn as the number 1 followed by Taurus lagna (Saturn in Aquarius) and 3rd position by Libra lagna (Saturn in Libra).

Why Capricorn Lagna Sasa Yoga formed in Libra is the strongest?

Saturn being the lagna and the 2nd lord posited in 10th gives immense strength to the horoscope. This is the strongest Dhana and Karma Yoga. Also Lagna lord posited in 10th confers Amala Yoga. This position of Saturn gives poornaayu (good longevity).

For Aquarius Lagna – Saturn is the 1st and the 12th Lord. Saturn’s position in Lagna itself confers Sasa Yoga. This Sasa yoga would give normal results. The native will see both ups and downs during Saturn’s period because along with the lagna lord , it is also the 12th Lord. The native can immigrate to foreign lands if the chart is supported by other planets like Retro Jupiter/Rahu, etc.

Sasa Yoga is the only Yoga which makes a person selfless. All the other yogas make a person selfish in some way or the other, but Sasa yoga is purely selfless in nature.

Even with the Gajakesari Yoga (formed with a combination of Jupiter and Moon) the native would want recognition, fame, respect, honour, felicitations, etc.. The native in this case wants social/public recognition.

If any person has developed or progressed or scaled heights in his life due to Sasa Yoga, then it is very clear that it is because of sheer hard work, perseverance and determination. There is no short-cut or luck playing the role. It’s purely efforts of the native himself.

The answer to questions pertaining to career, jobs, promotions etc. , Saturn’s position in the natal chart and its transit plays an important role. When Saturn transits over 10th house or the 10th lord beneficially, it triggers positive events. Benefic transit of Saturn is – when it transits over 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th house from Lagna or the Moon. During this transit period, the native’s running dasha should also be favorable and supportive.

Mars and its Importance in Logical Interpretation

Mars and its Importance in Logical Interpretation.

The signification of Mars is of utmost importance in this present world.  At one point or the other everyone will have to go through situations where they have to use their discretionary powers. It is not always a simple “Yes” or “No” to every situation.  The complexity of the situation will challenge the analytical skills of a person.

We when young required support of our Elders, Friends and Mentors to guide us through our tough situations, but once we started acquiring our individuality our ego grew along with us. We stopped discussing our problems with others and started taking our own decisions.  This may not be only because of our ego, but also because we tend to lose trust upon others advice.

The significations like Courage, Fighting spirit, Aim Orientation, to take fast and logical decisions, Speakingup for justice, etc., make analysis of Mars in the horoscope important.

Myths like Manglik (Mangal Dosh) have been associated to Mars when it is placed in the 2nd/12th/4th/7th/8th houses from Lagna (Ascendant) or Moon.   This particular dosha gained prominence in the recent years. When we go through the classics like Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra – by Parashara, Brihat Jataka – by Varahamihira, Phaladeepika – by Mantreshwara, Uttarakalamrita – by Kalidasa and Saravali – by Kalyana Varma, there is no reference to this dosha caused by Mars.  But, due to the hype created by our astrological society in the recent years, let us ponder into this fact.

When Mars is in the 2nd (Vaksthana, Annasthana, Kutumbasthana, Dhanasthana) it effectively influences the house and its significations.  Being the Vaksthana (house of speech) Mars influences the same and makes the person aggressive in speech or makes him put forth his/her opinion frankly. This is now-a-days a major requirement for a Lawyer who is required to assert his point across.

For a native to be a good communicator, factors like language, vocabulary, fluency and wittiness is required.  The right word at the right time is also an important factor.  For these above faculties the placement of Moon and Mercury is to be analyzed.  Mars comes into play only after this.  Mars gives the native the strength to analyze a situation with comparative factors.  In an argument the zeal to argue comes second whereas the information and facts supporting an argument comes first.

Hence if Mars is placed in a good bhava (house) like the 3rd, 6th or the 11th the native will get the strength to put across a point convincingly.  Particularly the 3rd house which is the house of communication and activity if has Mars in it or has the aspect of Mars on it will gain strength.

A weak Mars will not give the native the required confidence to speak in public.  An over confident Mars (this is when Mars is conjunct Jupiter and has influence of Rahu) if placed in a chart, will make the native put his nose into unwanted matters and spoil the situation from bad to worse.

Considering its placement in the 4th (the house of Sukh – enjoyment, vehicles, house, mother, etc.,) and is strongly placed, Mars will give good benefits from vehicles and also will make the native lucky with regard to acquiring own house / landed property.

In the same position if it is malefically influenced then it will make him a rash driver. In case Mars is weak then the native will not have confidence in vehicles and will face difficulty in acquiring own house.

In medical cases when a person is ill and let’s say he is in ICU and the relatives are concerned about his recovery. The query posed would be as to when the native would recover and come back to normal health.  In this scenario the position of transiting Mars plays an important role.  Favourable positions (from both lagna and moon) will help the native recover fast and bad position will delay recovery.

Mars gets activated in a chart when the native will be going through its Maha Dasha (Major period), Antar Dasha (Sub period) and Pratyantar Dasha (Sub sub period).  Also the rasi in which Mars transits from Moon is considered important.

Positive Perception

Positive Perception

Human being learns very fast and starts making adjustments with the way he reacts and responds to this outer world. In this process he starts to build an inner world of himself.  He does everything in his capacity to keep this inner world satisfied.  This inner world i am talking about is the world filled with Fear, Desire, Lust, Passion, Urge, Cruelty and many other ramifications of the mind. All these identities are to be fed with their required inputs regularly.  If a person forcibly makes any of them starve, they come out and dominate.  They start giving him spasms, just like when a person who stops taking drugs suddenly.

A trained mind can take these things easily and hence, a human being as intelligent he is, starts training his mind to keep up with the outer world and simultaneously with his inner world.  He convinces his inner worldly requirements by giving them assurance of making available the required situation.  He waits for it and then when it is time, he suddenly transforms from a normal social being to a very strange person, who is very different, a person who looks strange and foreign and a person who you cannot relate to.

It is strange but very true a fact that we are all having this problem but, in varied proportions.  We have our wants for our own reasons but we dare to share it to our world outside.  We store them deep in our subconscious.
Many of us have common traits which are innate to us, v.i Fear, Anxiety, Selfishness, Comparing attitude and sort of. These are very common and at times when the situation suddenly changes and goes out of hand we can observe these characters showing up.  The person concerned desperately wants to hide this attitude of his, but, due to the sudden change in the situation, his unpreparedness shows.

These innate characters are those we should be concerned of when analyzing a personality and not the established social identity.

A tough job, but, some good research has been done in this area, wherein, one can ascertain a human beings innate character by following his gesture patterns and by combining them to arrive at a particular trait.

However, this is not perfected, since people have also mastered to portray gestures.  It will be difficult to analyze these professionals who have mastered the art of conning.

However cunning a person is, when he is pushed to his limit, he surely will display his original or shall we say his innate behavior.

Let us take a simple case,
A person while driving meets with a simple accident. He first shouts at the other rider. But, once he realizes that the other is strong physically or he has more support, the language and behavior changes and he becomes submissive. He comes into the mode of compromise from the earlier mode of demand.

This happens to everyone with very little exception.
Then why do we do this.  Why do we show aggressiveness on weaker and submissive people and why do we ourselves become submissive when the table turns?

This case clearly shows that we act depending on the situation we are in and there is no fixed pattern.

Man is trying to understand everything outside and tries to make it suitable for his living, but, never puts his efforts in realizing the type of a person he is and try to change the way he perceives this world.  This one transformation will make a sea change.

He will start perceiving this world very differently.  He will be able to understand each situation by its merits and be more humble in handling it.

The requirement of the hour is to dwell deep into our mind and soul and try to cleanse ourselves. Train our minds to perceive this world from a positive perspective.  The whole world will look beautiful.  All this ugliness of pseudo mannerism will fade away giving way to Innocent Beauty

Case study on Ovarian Cyst

Case study on Ovarian Cyst
 About the illness:

Ovarian Cyst is a pea sized or sometimes more than a tennis ball sized extra growth found in the ovary.  Many women now-a-days are found to have this problem.  A few important symptoms are; irregular periods, heaviness, sharp or dull pain, weight gain and headache.

Cause: There is no particular cause established till date, but the frequency is more seen in women who are in the childbearing period.

Effect: Some women tend to become obese which results in difficulty in day-to-day routine. Infertility is taken as the most important ill effect that is caused due to an ovarian cyst. As natures gift, it is women who are blessed to experience the phenomenon of motherhood. But this being interrupted due to a cyst causes inexplicable emotional pain.

Cure: There are several medications available in both in Allopath and Ayurvedic Medicine.  Often steroids are given to the patient without the making the patient aware. It is important the patient to be aware of the medication being administered.

Yogasana’s like Surya Namaskara, Vajrasana and many more will be beneficial. This case study is to analyze the charts using Astrological Parameters and make students understand its utility in the field of diagnostics.

Planets and their significations (required for this analysis)
1.    Mars         - Blood
2.    Jupiter     - Growth, Expansion
3.    Venus      - Ovaries
4.    Saturn      - Chronic, Sluggish
5.    Rahu         - Lump, Tumor, Malignancy, Enlargement
6.    Ketu          - Laparoscopy, Key Hole Surgery, Hindered Blood Circulation
Houses (Bhavas) and their lords which are to be considered
1.    5th house - Progeny, Fertility of Egg, Pregnancy
2.    6th house - Diseases
3.    8th house - Reproductive Organs, undetectable
4.    5th lord     - Significator of Children

This is a chart of a young school going girl who is suffering from uneven and sharp pains in her abdomen while she undergoes her monthly period.  The periods are also not evenly spaced and are irregular.  This case is a typical case of ovarian cyst in its early stages.

The problem surfaced in the dasa of Rahu/Rahu.

Here Rahu is conjunct with Venus in the lagna and the 5th lord Jupiter is placed in the 8th.  Mars and Saturn both are debilitated.

We can clearly see that the influence of Saturn, Rahu, Mars and Jupiter over Venus and the 5th lord is triggering this problem.  In many cases the cyst will be non malignant.  But its ill effects of making the native obese, infertile and depressive has to be noted.

Insight into Astrology

Insight into Astrology

The way our life is moulded is directly related to how we think.  Life is directed in one direction or the other depending on how we think, what we desire, how we pursue, how we react/reciprocate and respond. How we understand society and control our emotions, etc.

On the other hand the Image we create for ourselves keeps goading us to maintain itself for its positive outlook from the Society's perspective.

This concept came to me when I was thinking on the relation between desire and the mind.

For example let us study the behavioral pattern of an Ant.

"Every day when it first comes out of its burrow, it scans for food and starts strolling in the field.  The pattern it follows each day is very complicated and fascinating, because it registers in its mind the path traversed for the past few days and its result. It finally starts to choose a particular route and repeats the trip. This shows that the desire for a particular food made the ant to repeat its route".
Here the subject is very simple because the desire is singular and the ant is not confused. This is not in the case of human beings. The desires are multifold and complex. The route is not definite, since one does not choose to fix to a singular desire.

The path traversed is somewhat explainable as trial and error.  One gets fixed to some of the earlier traversed paths wherein one feels he is in-sync.  This also depends on the individual and the way he thinks.

The hypothesis is that man thinks and then goes ahead in the path he likes or feels he finds happiness in it.  Does this mean that some part of our fate is also decided by the way we think?

It surely does. The link between our urge to realize worldly matters and the pattern of our life is very much interdependent.

Can we control our desires, our thoughts; know our inner innate personalities and our Subconscious wants?

We surely can, this is where Astrology plays an important role in providing an insight into ones life pattern and the way one thinks. The scientific analysis of a person will open-up the realities of one's capabilities and will make him aware of his strengths and how to manage one's short comings.

Astrology is a very deep rooted science in India and defaced due to petty astrologers who do not have the in-depth knowledge and are greedy to make money by suggesting remedies like performing poojas / homas and what not. If pooja's and homa's could have solved all our problems then there should have been lasting peace throughout India since centuries. With all regard to other religions, don't people belonging to all religions have problems in their life? And when they go to an astologer, can he suggest pooja's and homa's as remedies? So there are problems which an astrologer will have to attend to wherein traditional Hindu methods cannot be used.  This is where astrology as a science works.  Many remedies which are based on scientific study will be applied for better results.

The bigger picture is that everything is controlled by COSMOS and the vibrations coming from the constellations above us. Once we synchronize our physical, intellectual and psychological selves with the supreme power, we will be able to handle ourselves in a well orderly manner and our purpose of this birth will manifest.
A scientific approach is required to understand this beautiful phenomenon of the Cosmos and to know how it is related to what happens down here.

Grooming One's Intellect

Grooming One's Intellect

It's innate that everyone loves his face.  In fact loves himself.  He grooms himself to put up a good appearance in the world of perceptions.  In social gatherings most of the conversations start with "Oh, look at you, you look stunning" or "Have you gained weight recently?"  or "You  look  out  of  place,  you require having dressing sense".  These opinions make a person unknowingly concentrate more on  his  looks and appearance. Since, this is more in women folk generally they get immersed into it so deep that, they become specialists in appearance counseling.

Men get into body building, show off, buying extravagant gadgets, etc., which they hope  will  upkeep  their status of youth in their circles.

This, since has a very big  impact on  an  individual  from the  date  of  his  birth,  he  really  thinks  that  the appearance or looks of a person is the utmost important factor.
Generally, we stick to our routine every morning.  We  brush our teeth, take  bath,  scrub  our  bodies  clean using our favorite soap, comb our hair, get dressed up, a minimal makeup in case of women, have a sumptuous breakfast, put on our best shoes and off we go to our offices.

All this time we were in the  process of grooming our physical self and have forgotten  the  intellectual  self which is really who we are. The importance given to this physical self over shadows the intellectual self.

It will be apt at this juncture for me to give a small example: -

This  is  a  well  known story of  a shepherd who went  on to marry a  princess, who  was deceived  by the minister, who made the shepherd dress like a Sanskrit Scholar.  That night, the  princess  comes  to  know about the shepherd when he spills the beans by talking to her. The  princess  feels  deceived.   She  in  her anger tells her newly married husband to sit in front of the idol of Goddess Kali and ask her for knowledge.  Innocently the shepherd does what is told. I hope everyone knows the later part of the story.  The shepherd is non-other than the great Sanskrit poet Kalidasa.  Once he gained the knowledge or Jnana, he was recognized as a great scholar.  No one gave any importance to what he wore or how he lived.
It will be the best day in a person's life when he is recognized for what he intellectually is, rather to what he looks like.

So  it  is  our  responsibility  to  groom  our  intellectual  self  thrice  every  day.  This  in  our olden days was performed  as  sandhyavandana.  It  was  done  three  times  a  day  to  cleanse ourselves  from  any  ill/evil thoughts. Let's now start this practice of grooming our intellectual self and start talking to ourselves.

Do we want an external life where we will only perceive things through our five senses or do we prefer our mind, intellect and consciousness to get involved in the process of perception?

Now it will be easy for us to understand why, we give importance to taste, colours & design, music, feeling of touch and fragrance.

Lingering  towards  all these  physical entities  becomes lesser if the intellectual self starts to blossom.  The perception of food as a required source of energy and not a medium to enjoy the sense of taste will set into our mind.

Likewise  all  the  other  four  senses  will  come  under  the  control  of  our intellect and our consciousness, making us more oriented towards bigger goals.
