Kendra and Trikona

Dispostion of Kendra and Trikona due to Natural Benefics and Malefics

Kendra’s or Quadrant’s are 1^st, 4^th, 7^th and the 10^th houses from Lagna (Ascendant) and Trikona’s or the Trine’s are 1^st, 5^th and 9^th from Ascendant.

Kendra’s are classified as follows :

1^st      -        Dharma        - Righteousness

4^th      -        Artha            - Material Interactions

7^th      -        Kama           - Emotional Interactions

10^th    -        Moksha       - Liberation from the Cycle of Karma

These houses strongly posited will confer materialistic benefits and luxury to the native.  The word “Materialistic” here means - all that we can sense through our sensory organs, like, what we can “See, Feel, Hear, Taste & Smell”. 

Trikona’s are classified as follows :

1^st      -        Deha            - Body

5^th      -        Manas         - Mind

9^th      -        Atma            - Soul

Many authors have elucidated many theories on B-M-S (Body, Mind and Soul.  These houses when strongly placed give in-depth knowledge, the art of understanding, self-realization, yearning to know this creation, righteousness, empathy and many other traits which are in the emotional, psychological, spiritual and intellectual planes.

Both these Kendra’s and Trikona’s are considered as important houses in the study of Hindu Astrology.  Many facets of life  can be deciphered and understood by delineating these houses.

Jupiter, Venus, un-afflicted Mercury and strong Moon are considered to be natural beneficial (considering Jupiter, Venus and Mercury not retrograde in motion).

Rahu, Ketu, Saturn, Sun, afflicted-Mercury and weak Moon are said to be naturally malefic in a given horoscope.

These planets when posited in the above explained Kendra’s or Trikona’s give peculiar results. 

When a natural benefic’s are posited in Kendra’s, devoid of any planet in Trikona’s makes the native greedy and dissatisfied of the material wants of that Kendra. The native is more business minded and does not give much thought to other aspects of life. Amassing wealth becomes priority.

In case a natural malefic’s are posited in Kendra’s devoid of any planet in Trikona’s, then the Kendra gets industrious strength, the native becomes very shrewd and is hard working.  He has an aim and is always busy at his work.  Also here, the native does not give much thought to emotional aspects of life.

Natural malefics posited in Trikona’s devoid of planets in the Kendra’s give rise to a native who is cunning, a liar, a person without values, one who has a group of immoral friends, performs immoral deeds and so on.

Natural benefics posited in Trikona’s devoid of planets in the Kendra’s make the native lazy, inactive, always depends on others decisions, has no motivation to achieve, aim less, calls this world a maya (mirage), likes leisure, gambles and spends all his inheritance, fickle minded, easy going and so on.

Let us consider a combination where in the Kendra’s are posited with natural benefics and the Trikona’s are posited with natural malefics. The native here will be self centered and the whole idea of living will be to amass wealth, luxury and many materialistic amenities.  For him this becomes a status statement.  He is very active and will be like that till death.  Most of the times, these people will be Atheists. They believe in only one thing, “Hard Work Pays-off”.

In reverse to the above combination, if the Kendra’s are associated with Malefics and the Trikona’s are associated with Benefics, the chart becomes very strong.  The native will be conscious of his deeds and actions.  He has an aim which will be more socialistic and philanthropic.  This native will be considerate, humane but a strict diplomat.  He works his way towards achieving perfection. Though they make a lot of money, they are not self centered and more lent towards giving back to the society.  They hold high offices and governmental positions.  Knowledgeable, they are away from the clutches of Ego.

With this we come to know that malefic planets in Kendra and benefic planets in Trikona give ethical direction and commitment to the native, where as when reversed the native becomes selfish and greedy.
